General Information:

-Interdisciplinary and inter-collegiate program with students and faculty from College of Arts & Sciences, College of Public & Community Service, College of Nursing & Health Sciences, College of Management, and Graduate College of Education
-7-10 courses offered per semester
- Students may design a 6-course or competency-based concentration or a 10-course individual major in Asian American Studies
-Course content and pedagogy are designed to be student-centered and to support community involvement, particularly with immigrant populations
-Comparative work with Asian Studies, Latino Studies, Africana Studies, and American Studies is encouraged
-Collaborates closely with the University's Institute for Asian American Studies (IAAS) in relation to new course development, ongoing research and
service-learning opportunities, speakers and special events, publications, graduate/undergraduate student support, and the Institute's focus on community-based research and policy analysis on Asian American issues in New England
-Supports graduate students from American Studies, Applied Sociology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Dispute Resolution, Education, and Public Policy
with Asian American Studies interests to serve as teaching/research assistants, mentors to undergraduates, and special project developers for the program
-Supports high school students and the Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth (CAPAY) -- a nationally-recognized youth leadership network (http://fly.to/capay)
-Partners with the William Joiner Center in supporting new research on (re)constructions of identity and community in the Vietnamese diaspora through a Rockefeller Foundation Humanities Fellowship Program for scholars-in-residence at UMass Boston from 2000 to 2003
-Recognized as a national model by the Association of American Colleges & Universities
