General Information:
-Established in Fall 1993
-Provides students with a multidisciplinary education on the societies of
Asia and Asian diasporas with a focus on New York City and the U.S.
-Offers 20-25 courses a year
-Draws it faculty and courses from traditional disciplines such as History, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Education, and Literature, as well as disciplinary fields such as Asian Area Studies, American Ethnic Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Gay and Lesbian Studies, Postcolonial Studies, international human rights, and Policy Studies
-Offers a minor in Asian American Studies
-A major in Asian American Studies is being proposed
-Offers summer courses and independent studies
-Offers extra-curricular programs and events related to Asian and Asian American issues
-Serves as a resource for New York City's Asian American communities and community-based organizations
-Collaborates closely with the Women's Studies Program and Latin American & Caribbean Studies Program at Hunter College
